Nigel Brabbins MBA - Chief Executive

Nigel Brabbins

Nigel Brabbins is Chief Executive Officer of the Ultrasis group. Nigel has extensive main plc board experience, following a career which has covered all business functions in depth.

He has led and developed both SME's and Corporates in a number of sectors. His 25 years management experience includes senior positions with Forte Group plc, Securicor plc, Business Post Group plc and 4imprint Group plc as Managing Director, Europe.

More recently, Nigel held positions as Chief Executive of Sense Sonic Group plc, a company providing technical products worldwide in the health care sector and as Chief Executive of Kryotrans Ltd, an innovative company providing transportation for valuable temperature sensitive products to the pharmaceutical industry. Most recently he was leading a renewable energy start-up with the Carbon Trust.

He has practical experience of leading corporate recovery initiatives, mergers & acquisitions, and fundraising. He has also led an IPO and MBO.

Nigel has an MBA from Kingston University and in April 2009, following examination and professional review by the Institute of Directors, was awarded Chartered Director status.

Gerald Malone - Non Executive Chairman

Gerald Malone

Gerald Malone is the Independent Non-Executive Chairman who represents the shareholders' interests at Board level.

Gerry joined the Board in April 2000, bringing to the Group considerable knowledge and experience of the healthcare sector. An MP from 1992 to 1997, he was Minister for Health from July 1994 to May 1997.

Gerald is now a director of several healthcare companies in the UK and the USA, specialising in the development of innovative healthcare products. Gerald sits on both the Audit Committee and Remuneration Committee.

Michael Mills - Non Executive Director

Michael Mills

Michael Mills, a chartered accountant, is a Non-Executive Director who provides financial expertise to the Board. Michael has held senior financial roles in major plcs and has been involved in acquisitions, disposals, restructuring and JVs. He spent five years as director of Apax Partners in private equity and has since been involved in several turnarounds. His career has covered several sectors including technology, software, engineering, service and distribution, paper & packaging, food and textiles.

Michael is a non executive director of a number of companies, including New European Property Investment plc, an AIM company which invests primarily in the high quality office, retail and industrial property market initially in Romania and thereafter in other Central and Eastern European countries. He was Chairman of Advance Value Realisation an investment trust, Chairman of RMR plc and a Director of Drew Scientific Group plc. He joined the Board as a Non-Executive Director in May 2003. Michael sits on both the Audit Committee and Remuneration Committee.

Dr Charlie Martin

Dr Charlie Martin

Dr Charlie Martin has a PhD in Biochemistry and has over 25 years experience in healthcare and biotechnology. Before joining Ultrasis he held senior research and management positions with Amersham, Kodak, and Ortho Clinical Diagnostics (a Johnson & Johnson company). During this time he was responsible for the development and launch of over 50 products for diagnosis and monitoring of patients in the fields of cardiovascular disease, endocrinology, infectious diseases, perinatal medicine and cancer.

In addition, he brings considerable experience and knowledge of the Quality Standards required in the healthcare industry. These standards ensure the provision of high quality product to the user and enable products classed as medical devices to be licensed for sale in the USA. He has led and managed activities in validation, quality assurance, and clinical trials.

Since joining Ultrasis in Dec 2000 as Head of Lifeware, he has been responsible for the content and clinical validity of Ultrasis products. As such, he made significant contribution to the development of the Relief series(for Stress, Anxiety, Depression, and Insomnia), Drink and Drugwise, and web-enabled CALM Heart. He also had overall responsibility for the coordination, management, and content of the submission to NICE regarding Beating the Blues®.

Charlie Joined the board of Ultrasis in March 2004.

John Smith

John Smith

John has extensive experience in the public sector, following a career in both senior operational NHS management and the commissioning of NHS services.

He has held positions as Executive Director of the leading national charity, Mental Health Matters, where he led on business planning, organisational development and modernisation of the organisation. Prior to that, he was Director and Board member of a specialist NHS Trust with lead responsibility for modernisation, staff development and new service implementation. The Trust employed over 2,500 people and provided mental health services to a population of 1 million.

A qualified nurse by background, John was appointed Ultrasis UK Sales Director in May 2005 with a mandate to increase sales of Ultrasis programs to the NHS. John has already enjoyed considerable success, creating a solid platform on which we can now build further in the NHS and the private sector.

The board has set John an immediate goal - to deliver on the commitment made by the Secretary of State for Health to ensure that any one suffering from depression can walk into their local GP and be offered access to Beating the Blues®.
